Amanda Howard-Phillips joins SSQ

Amanda Howard-Phillips is the new second violinist for the Spokane String Quartet. She replaces Tracy Dunlop, who moved to Michigan. Amanda joined the Spokane Symphony in 2003, and was awarded the position of principal second violin in 2008. Originally from Bainbridge Island, Amanda received her master's degree in violin performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and her bachelor's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has been awarded fellowships to study at the National Repertory Orchestra and the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, and was awarded first prize in the Pacific Chamber Symphony Concerto Competition in San Francisco. Amanda performs with the Oregon Coast Music Festival in the summer, and recently joined the faculty at Gonzaga University.

Coming soon: the SSQ's 2011-12 season

Thanks to all who attended concerts during our 2010-11 season. The Spokane String Quartet is working on the programming for the 2011-12 season and the repertoire will be announced when the new season brochure is mailed in July. Concert dates will be Sept. 25 at the Bing Crosby Theater; Nov. 13, Feb. 19 and March 11 at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox; and April 29 at the Bing Crosby Theater. All concerts begin at 3 p.m. Sundays.

The Spokane String Quartet was founded in 1979 in order to bring live, professional chamber music performances to Inland Northwest audiences. For the past 32 years, it has been the only chamber ensemble to present a regular concert series including music from the standard string quartet repertoire, contemporary works, premieres by local composers and music from the Moldenhauer Archives. The Quartet’s regular concert series takes place at the newly renovated Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave. in downtown Spokane, and in the beautiful and intimate atmosphere of the Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave.
 
The Spokane Chamber Music Association, incorporated in 1983, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and promote the musical and educational activities of the Spokane String Quartet. In 1998 the SCMA developed an educational outreach program which includes visiting area secondary schools and youth musical organizations, explaining the concerts and offering free and reduced-price tickets to area music students and their families. In addition, local student ensembles are invited to perform in the Met lobby prior to the Spokane String Quartet’s regular performances, giving these students much-appreciated performance opportunities. Groups which have appeared in this format include string quartets from the Spokane Youth Orchestra, Ferris High School, Eastern Washington University, and Coeur d’Alene.
