The National Theatre's revival of Amadeus, by Peter Shaffer, is a smashing success with two mesmerizing performances by Lucien Msamati and Adam Gillen. A captured performance of this hit production will be screened at the Bing on Sunday, February 19 at 2:00 PM as part of its Stage to Screen series.
It's been almost 40 years since bad boy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and scheming also-ran Antonio Salieri faced off for an epic examination of the essence of genius and the immortality of creativity in the play that became a monster hit in both London and New York before being transformed into an Oscar winning movie.
Now Amadeus has returned to its original home at the National Theatre for a stunning revival that features a live orchestral ensemble to make Mozart's immortal music sing as eloquently as Mr. Shaffer's words. An unqualified hit of the new London season, one critic called Amadeus "a note-perfect production by rising director Michael Longhurst that gives it a fresh, vital and musically inventive new reading, one which fully confirms its classic status."
